This 4 bed detached house was built by Shropshire Homes in 2006. Mike and Hilary have made improvements primarily to reduce their carbon emissions. Eight solar panels providing up to 2.6 kWp and a Tesla 2 battery pack, costing in total about £14,000 have been installed, along with more recently an ASHP and some radiator upgrades. Loft flooring has been lifted on loft legs to allow more insulation to be added beneath. Two solar light tubes were installed to improve internal natural light and the gas hob has been replaced with an induction hob.
Some necessary replacement double glazing using infra-red coating Planitherm or Pilkington K glass. All white goods are A++ including heat pump tumble dryer. A Clearview 5kw wood burner for occasional use has been installed. All of this work has raised the EPC to A. Three water butts complete the low carbon journey.
Visitors are asked to pre book and there will be no access to the inside of the house. However, most things of interest can be viewed from outside.
Our household has reduced dairy intake and are eating more vegetarian food. We are trying not to fly - no flights since 2016; train travel to Europe; electric car; bicycles and walking and buses.
